In response to NHS Improvement’s announcement on trusts identifying deteriorating patients sooner, Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman Rob Behrens said:
We welcome NHS Improvement’s announcement today. Too many people are still dying of infections, particularly sepsis, due to a failure to treat them quickly enough.
‘Our report in 2013 helped put sepsis on the national agenda and prompted actions to raise awareness among health professionals and improve outcomes for people with sepsis.
‘Spotting deteriorating patients sooner is essential in reducing the number of avoidable deaths from treatable infections such as sepsis.’
