Information request about the risk assessment contracts at PHSO and whether we have used Ghallagher Bassett's services

Thank you for your email of 17 May 2015 in which you requested information in the following terms:

  1. Has Ghallagher Bassett's services been used by any PHSO departments at present or in the past? If so, which departments and when?
  2. If the services of Ghallagher Bassett are not used, then who does provide the Risk Assessment advice and reviews for the PHSO?

Firstly, I can confirm that PHSO records of contracts dated back to 2002. During that time PHSO has not used the services of Gallagher Bassett at any stage.

Secondly, I should explain that many organisations use operational risk assessment for different reasons and in different ways, so there is a number of ways that 'risk assessment' could be defined. That said, I can confirm that PHSO use KPMG to undertake risk based auditing services. External auditing is undertaken by the National Audit Office. Further, the Governance section of PHSO also provides risk assessment advice in an operational and corporate sense within the organisation.

I hope the information is helpful.
