Ombudsman welcomes sepsis improvement measures

Julie Mellor, the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman, said:

We warmly welcome these actions across the health system on recognising and treating sepsis, which taken together could help save up to 12,500 lives each year.

'The measures will also be supported by the families who brought their complaints about the NHS to us for final adjudication after they lost loved ones to sepsis.

'These families wanted to ensure that the NHS learned from their experiences and measures were put in place to prevent further avoidable deaths from sepsis.'
