Information request for the number of complaints we received which were referred by an MP in the business year 2014/15
1. How many complaints have been investigated by the Parliamentary Ombudsman that originated from an MP in the year 2014-2015?
In 2014/15 we received 2,202 parliamentary cases that were referred by a Member of Parliament (MP).
There were 1,002 investigations concluded in 2014/15 that had an MP added to the complaints case on VisualFiles (our electronic case management system). Of these, 119 were health service complaints and 883 were parliamentary complaints.
2. Please give me the breakdown in the same way you did for 2013-2014 below specifying how many were made by MPs and the lengths of time on average it took for completion.
Please find below the information you requested for complaints about the NHS, the Information Commissioner's Office, HM Revenue & Customs and the Care Quality Commission.
Body Complained | Number of investigations that were concluded in 2014/15 that were referred by an MP | Average days to conclude (from acceptance for investigation) |
---|---|---|
NHS | 119 | 205 |
Information Commissioner's Office | 64 | 152 |
HM Revenue & Customs | 138 | 184 |
Care Quality Commission | 6 | 158 |
3. What was the longest MP referral re the ICO to be completed for Final Report as brought to the PHSO in 2013? How long did it take to get from the time of MP referral to the time of Final Report signed off. Which MP’s referral re the ICO took the longest time to conclude?
I have interpreted this part of your request to be for details about the complaint case it took the longest to conclude - where the complaint was about the Information Commissioner's Office and was referred to the Parliamentary Ombudsman by a Member of Parliament in 2013.
The longest complaint case (where the ICO was the complained body and referred to the PHSO by an MP in 2013) was open for 469 days in total, and it took 382 days between the point that it was accepted for investigation and concluded.
I hope the information is helpful.
