Information request for the number of complaints the PHSO has received about the Local Government Ombudsman and the Information Commissioner’s Office
Thank you for your letter of 18 December 2014 in which you ask for information about complaints the Ombudsman has received in relation to the Local Government Ombudsman (LGO) and the Information Commissioner (ICO). Please find the answer to your questions below.
On how many occasions has the PHSO received a complaint concerning purported misconduct by the Local Government Ombudsman?
On how many occasions has the PHSO found in favour of the complainant with regard to question 1?
Firstly I should explain that the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman has no powers to investigate complaints about the LGO. Though people do complain to us about the LGO, we would explain our jurisdiction and the case would be closed. This is reflected in the figures below.
Complaints about the LGO received
2011/12 | 2012/13 | 2013/14 | 2014/15 (Q1 to Q3) | |
---|---|---|---|---|
LGO | 29 | 28 | 24 | 19 |
Outcomes for complaints about the LGO

Please find below the numbers of complaints received about the ICO and the outcomes of those complaints. It is unclear what you mean by ‘misconduct’ but people can complain to us about how the ICO have handled their case and the service they have provided.
I hope you find this information helpful.
