About us

We are the final stage for complaints about the NHS in England and public services delivered by the UK Government. We look into complaints where someone believes there has been injustice or hardship because an organisation has not acted properly or fairly or has given a poor service and not put things right.
Our service is free for everyone.

About the role

The Clinical Advice team is responsible for the provision of all clinical advice to the Ombudsman. We have a group of internal advisers who are employed and work on a part time basis across our London and Manchester offices.

Clinical advisers provide both verbal and written advice to our independent casework teams. Advisers are employed by PHSO on part-time contracts. It is essential for Advisers to continue to work in the NHS. This is important because it ensures that clinicians bring current and up to-date knowledge and experience to our organisation, both in terms of clinical practice and the organisational context in which services are delivered.

We are keen to accept applications from experienced Consultants in General Medicine with active on-call commitments within the NHS. Following appointment, new clinical advisers will participate in a short induction programme designed to equip them with the skills, knowledge and information they will need for their new role. This includes specific training in our case management and IT systems, with appropriate support from an assigned mentor and lead clinician.

PHSO work with third party recruiters, please note Reed may contact you to progress your application.
