Comment on NAO’s report about discharge of older people from hospital

Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman Julie Mellor said:

Health and social care leaders must look at the discharge process as a whole and uncover why ten years of guidance to prevent unsafe discharge is not being followed, causing misery and distress for patients, families and carers.

'As well as delayed discharge our investigations have uncovered that often patients are discharged too soon or without the right support in place.'
