Commenting on the Healthcare Safety Investigation Branch (HSIB) report Support for NHS staff following patient safety incidents, Rob Behrens, Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman, said:
This report highlights the importance of developing an open culture in the NHS where staff are empowered to speak up and feedback is seen as an opportunity to improve.
Good complaint handling is vital to improving patient safety – it’s not about blame and ‘pointing the finger’ but rather supporting health workers to provide the safest service they can.'
