Information request for the names of the individuals and government departments to which the Parliamentary Ombudsman is responsible and answerable, and the annual cost to the public purse or taxpayer of the Ombudsman.
The Ombudsman is a Crown servant, appointed by Her Majesty by Letters Patent on the recommendation of the Prime Minister. She holds office during good behaviour, and may only be removed if incapacitated, or following a resolution of both Houses of Parliament (section 1 of the Parliamentary Commissioner Act 1967).
Our statement of responsibilities provides more information about the Ombudsman's relationship with Parliament and key government stakeholders.
Further details about Dame Julie Mellor are available on our website
A detailed breakdown of the cost of the Ombudsman is available in our Annual Report 2014-15 (page 53).
I hope the information is helpful.
