About the role

An opportunity has arisen for a Assistant Director of Governance to join the Corporate services directorate based from our London office.

The PHSO has embarked upon a three year strategy to become an exemplary ombudsman service by providing an independent, impartial and fair complaints resolution service to help raise standards and improve public services.

The role of the Assistant Director of Governance will involve taking responsibility for Governance arrangements at PHSO, ensuring that PHSO’s corporate governance system of internal control and risk management arrangements are robust, proportionate and fit for purpose in supporting informed decision making and the delivery of the organisations strategic aims.

You will manage and review the corporate governance framework, ensuring it is fit for purpose, reflects best practice, and is proportionate, providing direction and support to the governance team to ensure the governance arrangements are effectively managed across the organisation. In addition you will act as Deputy Chief of Staff providing strategic support to the Ombudsman and Chief Executive.

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate proven experience of leading on and implementing effective governance arrangements, preferably within the public sector. You will have proven management experience displaying excellent communication skills and stakeholder management experience.
