About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Director of Human Resources to lead the HR Team at the Parliamentary & Health Service Ombudsman on a permanent basis. The PHSO has embarked upon a three year strategy to become an exemplary ombudsman service by providing an independent, impartial and fair complaints resolution service to help raise standards and improve public services and our new People Strategy will form a significant part of this journey.

Responsible to the Director of Legal & Professional Services you will support the Director in the effective delivery of the PHSO’s People Strategy. Acting as a source of trusted advice to senior leaders, you will be responsible for the effective operation and day to day management of the wider HR team, delivering key projects and priorities.

As part of your role you will be expected to proactively contribute to the development of the HR and business strategy, planning and implementing change as necessary. You will act as subject matter expert , providing advice and guidance on a full range of employee relations issues, including, grievances, redundancies, probation, absence, ill-health and any other HR related matter, ensuring the application of PHSO HR policies and procedures. 

To be successful in this role you will be CIPD qualified or have demonstrable similar experience and evidence your commitment to continuing professional development. You will have proven up-to-date technical knowledge, promoting good practice in the key areas of Employment Law, Employee Relations, Resourcing and Talent Management, Learning & Development, Reward and Organisation Development. A strong track record as a senior HR Professional is essential.
