We are the Parliamentary Health Service Ombudsman, an independent national ombudsman service. We are here to make final decisions on complaints that are yet to be resolved by the NHS in England, UK government departments, and some other public organisations.

About the role

As a Casework Publication Officer, you will be playing a pivotal role in helping PHSO to publish more of its casework. We want to make sure that our published decisions are of high quality, accessible, user-friendly, and on brand. 

This means the Casework Publication Officer will be responsible for supporting the publication of high quality work, and will also contribute to developing the publication process. This is why a keen eye for detail and an ability to show initiative will be essential in this role. 

This is also an exciting opportunity to help make a difference to society. The work we do is extremely important in righting individual wrongs, informing public policy and driving improvements in public services.

Main duties
•    Complete data entry and case management system checks to identify cases that are suitable for publication
•    Thoroughly proofread casework decision statements and reports to ensure:
•    casework has been appropriately anonymised, in line with our de-identification policy
•    grammatical and typographical errors are corrected
•    casework decisions are in the appropriate format for publication
•    the content is in line with our House Style and Language guidelines.
•    Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to ensure publication related activities are completed
•    Upload cases onto our digital publishing platform and resolve any technical or formatting issues that may arise
•    Develop and update a monthly report to document trends in published cases over time
•    Collate insight and make recommendations to continually improve the publication process
•    Work in collaboration with Communications and Public Affairs colleagues to support post-publication activities
•    Support the production of "what good looks like" examples to highlight good practice and model exceptional in-house writing style
•    Keep full, accurate and up-to-date records and audit trails on the casework management system
•    Support the Casework Publications Manager to manage and develop the online casework publishing platform

The Successful Applicant

The successful Casework Publications Officer will be able to demonstrate:

Essential
•    Excellent writing and editing skills, with experience of proofreading and attention to detail
•    IT literate with experience of working with content for digital platforms
•    The ability to analyse complex written material and identify and summarise key themes
•    Good planning and organisational skills and able to manage multiple deadlines
•    Ability to use own initiative and judgment to solve problems and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
•    Self-motivated and able to work with little day-to-day supervision from line manager
•    The ability to work collaboratively, seeking and applying feedback
•    Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships

Desirable
•    An awareness of public administration (central government in particular) or the NHS, and the context in which it operates
