About the role

We are seeking a creative External Communications Manager with a strong understanding of media, marketing and digital communications coupled with good news sense. 

This is an exciting opportunity to help make a difference to society. The work we do is extremely important in righting individual wrongs, informing public policy and driving improvements in public services.

The External Communications Manager will lead and deliver communications activities that help us achieve our strategic aims by:

•    making it easier for people to find and use our service
•    improve understanding of our role and the impact of our work
•    sharing learning from our casework to improve public services.

The successful candidate will have:

•    a track record of delivering impactful communications strategies and campaigns
•    experience of analysing and editing complex written material, summarising key issues and tailoring messages for different audiences
•    excellent press office management skills, with experience of crisis and reputation management
•    extensive experience of working in a busy and demanding communications function.

As part of the External Affairs, Strategy and Communications Directorate, the External Communications manager will be required to work across directorate and organisational functions, delivering subject matter expertise to projects that enable us to deliver our strategic priorities.

This role can be based out of either the Manchester or London offices and will involve hybrid working.
