About us

We are the final stage for complaints about the NHS in England, UK government departments and some other UK public organisations. We look into complaints where someone believes there has been injustice or hardship because an organisation has not acted properly or fairly or has given a poor service and not put things right.

Our service is free for everyone.

About the role

PHSO is looking for a dynamic, driven and experienced FOI/DP Manager who can design, build and enhance our compliance obligations and controls.

As PHSO’s FOI/DP Manager you will be responsible for the delivery of an efficient, informed and fully compliant information request handling operation. You will be expected to manage a small team with a varied work load and to work closely, commercially and innovatively with our business units, stakeholders and Legal Team to provide PHSO with expert advice and on-going best practice on information rights.

You will maintain knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations/codes of practice and tribunal/ICO/court decisions and will be able to interpret, scope and provide rational outcomes to complex requests, applying relevant exemptions and the public interest test, where necessary. You will be required to clarify legislative ambiguity and will ensure we are GDPR ready for the reformed DP regulations in May 2018.

You will be responsible for ensuring our Publication Scheme is developed, implemented and subjected to periodic reviews, as and when necessary.

You will also be expected to design appropriate controls for our data protection awareness programme to alert staff across the organisation of their legal obligations and responsibilities.
